August Article: How Much to Pay a VA?
One of the first questions I am asked is 'how much do you charge an
hour?' Pricing for a virtual assistant (VA) depends on many factors,
such as:
- Are the tasks that need to be performed require experience, special skills, creativity, insight, knowledge, maturity, etc.
- Do you want to build a partnership with this person so they can understand you, your business and your goals?
- Will it be a one-time project?
- Is it a mindless task (i.e. data entry)?
If you answered 'yes' to the first two points, then you will need to be
prepared to pay for that, just as you would want to be paid for your
expertise.
Here's an exercise for you: Think about how much do
you pay your hairdresser? $8? $20? $50? $120? Why do you pay what you
pay? A hairdresser may spend a total of one hour on your hair. If you
get color, perm or highlights, you'll pay for more than just a cut. If
you look fabulous when you walk out, you probably feel it was worth it.
Now think about your business: If your VA helps you look good
in front of clients and contacts, gets the jobs done you don't have the
time or expertise to do, gives you more time to focus on building the
business and helps you sleep better at night, what's that worth to you?
$18, $28, $38 or $58 per hour?
So, I can't give one dollar
amount when asked about pricing. Search for the VA that meets the needs
of you and your business and get the conversation started.
